LASIK & PRK
(Vision Correct Surgery)
What is LASIK & PRK?
LASIK and PRK are two types of laser eye surgeries used to correct vision problems like nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism. They both reshape the cornea so that light entering the eye can be properly focused onto the retina, leading to clearer vision.
LASIK (Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis)
-
A thin flap is created on the surface of the cornea using a blade or laser.
-
The underlying corneal tissue is reshaped with a laser.
-
The flap is then placed back in its original position, where it naturally adheres without stitches.
-
Recovery is fast — most people see improved vision within 24 hours.
PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy)
-
Instead of creating a flap, the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium) is removed completely.
-
The cornea is then reshaped with a laser, just like LASIK.
-
The epithelium regrows over several days.
-
Recovery takes longer and may be a bit more uncomfortable initially, but PRK is often preferred for people with thin corneas or certain eye conditions.
